In a divided wizarding world, love and loyalties are put to the test.

When Lady Rosemary Huntley arranges for her Russian internet date to visit on the evening of a talk given by prominent Member of Parliament, Ewart Stewart, little does she imagine that her new gentleman friend is not long for this world.

The Foreign Office and some offshoot of the KGB are soon in attendance, along with the ever-enthusiastic PC Pendlebury and the less than enthusiastic Detective Inspector Trench, unimpressed at having his fishing holiday interrupted. Trench is determined to get back to the river bank as soon as possible despite finding himself having to sort through a diverse cast of characters each of whom has a motive and opportunity for committing the deadly crime.

Oundle & District Choral Society are pleased to present

Spring Concert

Vivaldi " Gloria " & Tippett "Five Negro Spirituals"

Saturday 13th April at 7:30pm.

St Peter’s Church, Oundle

North Street, Oundle

Tickets: £10

The varied programme will include:

-        Antonio Vivaldi’s outstandingly popular setting of the Gloria, which has been the subject of over 100 CD recordings since it was “re-discovered” in 1939, 225 years after Vivaldi wrote the piece

-        Sir Michael Tippett’s moving adaptations of 5 negro spirituals from his Oratorio A Child of our Time.  Tippett used the spirituals in the same way as Bach did with the chorales in his Passions, to provide the audience with well-known melodies to bind the overall work together

-        A selection of modern secular works from composers ranging from Karl Jenkins to Ēriks Ešenvalds and including Samuel Barber’s  perennial favourite Adagio for Strings

The Society will be accompanied by the Oundle Choral Society Ensemble, who so ably performed Handel’s Messiah for us at Christmas last and will welcome our usual high standard of vocal soloists to brighten the evening for everyone.

The Society would like to thank Oundle Town Council for their continuing support for our efforts.

This concert is also supported by VSHLaw solicitors of Thrapston.

We look forward to seeing you!

Fletton House, Oundle

Fletton Way, Glapthorn Rd, PE8 4JA

Director:  Felipe Bustos Sierra

Release:  2018

Runtime:  1hr 36min

Edinburgh-based Chilean filmmaker Felipe Bustos Sierra successfully explores political protest in this wonderfully humane documentary about the Rolls Royce factory workers in East Kilbride who showed their solidarity with the people of Chile by refusing to fix the fighter jet engines used by Pinochet in the military coup of 1973. The film explores this modest act of rebellion in an admirably low-key way that emphasises the fundamental decency of the men who took a stand.  Reuniting the key players who risked their careers, the film shows how an act of oppression in a part of the world to which these men had no personal ties was still like a red rag to a bull.

‘But what makes the film special is Sierra’s ability to trace the real-world effect these men had by picking up the story in Chile.’

Alistair Harkness, Scotsman
