A SYRIAN LOVE STORY (12A)
Wednesday, 21st February, 7.30pm (New start time!)
Fletton Way, Glapthorn Rd, Oundle, PE8 4JA
Director: Sean McAllister
Runtime: 1hr 16min
Awarded the Grand Jury Prize at Sheffield Doc/Fest, this searing film is an intimate portrait of love and the loss of a homeland. Amar meets Raghda in a Syrian prison cell, where they communicate through a pinhole in the wall and fall in love. This film helps us to understand why people are literally dying for change in the Arab world. When the pair achieve political asylum in the French town of Albi, their travails are not over, as the separation from Syria leads to increasing domestic dissonance and Raghda’s mental universe unravels.
This film should be seen in conjunction with Ai Wei Wei’s all-encompassing tragedy of the global refugee crisis, Human Flow, to be shown at St Peter’s Church, Oundle on the following Saturday, 24th February.
‘Sean McAllister’s intimate, achingly poignant documentary couldn’t be more timely.’ The Times
