Three popular classics can be heard in the orchestra’s annual autumn concert in St Peter’s Church, Oundle. Verdi’s stirring Overture ‘The Force of Destiny’ reached a wide audience as the sound track for the films ‘Jean De Florette’ and ‘Manon Des Sources’ - and more recently in an advert for lager! Then Mozart’s beautiful Clarinet Concerto will be performed by Marie Lloyd, one of the UK’s leading clarinetists, and a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. The immediate inspiration for our final piece, Symphonie Fantastique, was the composer’s infatuation with the Irish Shakespearean actress Harriet Smithson. When Berlioz saw her in Paris in the roles of Ophelia and Juliet he declared 'I will marry that woman and on that drama, I will write my greatest symphony'. His Symphonie Fantastique is a tour de force for the orchestra with the 'March to the Scaffold' and 'The Witches' Sabbath' among the highlights.

The Rutland Sinfonia welcomes wheelchair users to its concerts but so as to better prepare for their easier access and accommodation, if possible, we would be grateful if you could let us know you are planning to attend by emailing rutlandsinfonia@gmail.com
