"New" Nature Writing Workshop with Bridget Holding

Friday, 9th June 2017, 18:30

The Kingfisher Café
Barnwell Country Park, Barnwell Rd, Oundle, PE8 5PB

Tickets: £16

Bridget is a tutor in creative writing for the University of Exeter, as well as a writer, and psychotherapist. She also runs Wild Words which explores the connections between the writer, their words and the natural world.

Nature writing is now one of the fastest growing genres; the new generation of nature writers are selling like hot cakes. Come and find out about the market, and how to write for it.

It’s no longer the idealised rural life and landscapes of the pastoral poetry tradition. It’s raw, edgy, groundbreaking, thought-provoking, politically challenging, and society changing. It takes in poetry and prose, fiction and non-fiction. It fuses nature writing, travel writing, philosophy and psychology. Its writers heal and find meaning through contact with nature, and so do its readers.

"With her focus on learning from nature, and the embodied, holistic experience of the storyteller, university tutor and psychotherapist Bridget Holding is revitalising traditional creative writing teaching." The London School of Economics Literary Festival 2017

Bridget is a former screenwriter, whose articles have appeared in Writing Magazine and The Psychotherapist, among other publications. She is also a UKCP registered psychotherapist. She’s a former associate lecturer for the Open University, and has been a tutor of creative writing for the University of Exeter since 2008.

By Luke Wright

After the Fringe First-winning success of What I Learned from Johnny Bevan, Luke Wright is back with a stunning new spoken word show - The Toll.

Fresh from supporting John Cooper Clarke on tour, Wright is here to subject the English language to a series of degrading yet delightful tricks, all for your amusement.

The poems in The Toll tour the flat-roofed pubs and half-bought couches of Brexit Britain. They struggle with doubt, duty and a score of half-cut nights spent shouting impotently at Question Time.

Spend an evening with a raconteur at the top of his game as he spits out visceral, inventive verse that sweats, bleeds and sings.
