In 1944, as the Nazi occupiers retreated from Latvia, they stole the treasures of Latvian museums, loading them onto trains bound for Czechoslovakia. Mērija Grīnberga, the only employee who volunteered to accompany their journey, became the saviour of the collection and oversaw its return into the hands of the Soviet occupiers. As a reward she was sacked from her job at the museum and a new reality ensued, vividly evoked through her mother’s diaries.
Supported by the Embassy of Latvia, marking Latvia’s Centenary celebrations.
