I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO (12A)
Wednesday, 20th September, 7.45pm
Fletton Way, Glapthorn Rd, Oundle, PE8 4JA
Director: Raoul Peck
Runtime: 1hr 33 min
"The story of the negro in America is the story of America - it is not a pretty story." In the wake of Black Lives Matter and Obama’s presidency, this powerful film uses the words and ideas of American writer James Baldwin to produce a cinematic version of the book he never completed. It is a visceral narration about race in America that tracks the lives and assinations of Baldwin’s friends: Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X and Medgar Evers. Though partly rooted in the struggle for equality in the 50s and 60s, this film is about what it means to be black in America today.
